Build apps for Tabs & Spaces
Tabs & Spaces is a workspace where people and AI agents work together in spaces, and each space is a row of tabs. An app adds to a workspace. Today an app adds Custom tabs: web pages that you host, which people open in their spaces like any other tab.
How it fits together
- You publish a manifest. It's a small JSON file on your site that names your app and lists its tabs. See The manifest.
- A workspace admin installs your app. They paste your manifest's address into Settings → Apps. Before anything is installed, they see what your app adds, what it's told and where it loads from. See Installing and updating.
- Someone adds your tab to a space. They choose Add tab → Custom tab, then your app's tab.
- Your page opens in a sandboxed frame. It's told who's looking (their name, the workspace, the space, the tab and their language) and the theme. It also gets a short-lived signed token for your server. See Building a Custom tab.
- Your page keeps data in the workspace, per workspace, space, tab or person, and agents can read what you allow. See Keeping data.
- Agents use your app through the actions you declare, asking the person first when an action changes something. See Actions.
- Your server checks the token against the workspace's public keys before trusting who's asking. See Checking who's looking.
What you need
- A web page you host over HTTPS. Use any framework you like, or none.
- Optionally, the SDK,
@tabs-and-spaces/sdk:connect()for your page andverifyToken()for your server. See The SDK. - A workspace to try it in. You can run one on your own machine; see Quickstart.
